Famous British Food (vs Famous British Faces)

Famous British food is famous for a reason: because it’s downright delicious. Delectable. Divine. You get the picture.

Ok, in the past, British nosh traditionally used to be more infamous than anything else, for being the worst food in the world, but these days modern British food is rocking and a rolling, and we love it!

The most famous British food of course involves all the traditional dishes from the UK, like the Full English Breakfast, Fish & Chips, Pie & Mash, Shepherd’s Pie; as well as desserts such as Apple Crumble and Trifle; not to mention other delicacies from the UK, like Haggis and Welsh Rarebit.

So anyway, we thought what better way to celebrate how great British food is doing nowadays, than to run through a list of the most famous British dishes alongside Britain’s most famous faces. As you do!

Britain’s Famous Food (and Faces)

Full English Breakfast

Famous British Food - Full English Breakfast

Starting with the most important meal of the day, the Full English Breakfast is perhaps the most famous British food of them all. If you were to compare the Full English Breakfast to a British famous British face (because why wouldn’t you?!) then it’d obviously have to be James Bond, both having a licence to thrill. Oh stop it!

Fish and Chips

Famous British Food - Fish and Chips

Another very famous British food dish is Fish and Chips, a meal that’s synonymous with seaside towns across the UK. Famously linked to one these towns (Southend-on-sea in Essex) is one of Britain’s most famous celebrity chefs, Jamie Oliver. In Jamie’s words, Fish and Chips is just “pukka.”

Bangers and Mash

Bangers and Mash

Bangers and mash is famously served on your typical British pub food menu, not to mention it being enjoyed in practically every home in the UK. It might sound like something our heavyweight boxing champ Anthony Joshua would make of you if you upset him, but bangers and mash is an absolute classic when it comes to traditional British dinners.

Toad in the hole

Toad in the hole

Toad in the hole is a retro British meal made from sausages and one of the most famous British delicacies, that is the Yorkshire Pudding. Britain’s lovable golfer Rory Mcillroy is famous for putting balls into holes, but we bet you he enjoys a nice toad in the hole too from time to time.

Shepherd’s Pie

Shepherd's Pie

Shepherd’s Pie is another particularly famous British food. This minced lamb and potato dish is extra tasty when cooked with Welsh lamb. This obviously means that King Charles, formerly the Prince of Wales, loves a cheeky Shepherd’s Pie. Similar to cottage pie, but better.

Pie and Mash

Pie and Mash

Pie & Mash is without doubt one of the best British dishes to try when visiting the UK, as well as one of the most famous. It’s also well known that England’s mega-famous ex-footballer David Beckham loves visiting one of London’s best Pie & Mash shops when he’s back in Britain.

Ploughman’s Lunch

Ploughamn's Lunch

The Ploughman’s Lunch is mainly a famous British food for being such a simple dish, consisting of bread, ham, cheese, salad and pickles most typically. This traditional British lunch dish is perhaps best compared to the UK’s superstar musician Ed Sheeran, for the simple reason that both are super famous but also super humble.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea is probably the pinnacle of British food traditions and we’d like to think, famous around the world. Britain’s queen of baking, Mary Berry, and this ultra traditional sandwich and cake fest, just go hand in hand. Despite the name, a typical afternoon tea is as much about the food as it is the tea.

Welsh Cawl

Welsh Cawl

When we think about Wales, we think of Welsh Cawl. This meat and vegetable broth is proper traditional Welsh food. While it’s not necessarily the most famous British food overall, it perhaps ought to be. It might well be less famous than Welsh actor Michael Sheen, but Welsh Cawl is in fact one of Britain’s national dishes.

Haggis

Haggis

When we think about something famous, strong, meaty and tasty from Scotland, we think about Haggis, another one of Britain’s national dishes. Then again, we also think of Gerrard Butler, the famous actor.

Beef Wellington

Beef Wellington

Beef Wellington is famous in England for being one of the ultimate dinners for special occasions. It’s also famous for being a mainstay on the menu at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, which is the restaurant of celebrity Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay. Just in case you’re an idiot sandwich.

Irish Stew

A famous and tasty dish from Ireland, an important part of the UK, is the Irish Stew. Another is Liam Neeson.

Roast Dinner

Famous British food

Not only is it possibly the most famous British food of the lot, but the classic roast dinner is undoubtedly the most prestigious. If the roast dinner were a famous Brit, it’d have to be classy Queen Liz (yep, we just likened a roast dinner with the longest ever reigning British monarch – we’re sure she would’ve approved).

Apple Crumble

Apple Crumble

Probably the most famous of the classic British desserts, apple crumble is the pudding of all puddings. Call us crazy, but we’re likening Apple Crumble to legendary actress Dame Judi Dench. Just like her character ‘M’ in the James Bond films, this incredible pudding has a hard, crunchy exterior, but you just know there’s a soft, sweet and fruity centre underneath.

Eton Mess

Eton Mess

Eton Mess is an incredibly famous strawberry, meringue and cream dessert from the posh part of England that is Eton. And as we’ve chosen to write this silly article linking famous British delicacies to our famous people, the fact that Prince Harry went to Eton College is a sweet treat indeed.

Strawberry Trifle

Trifle

If you’re looking for famous English class and beauty, look no further than the classic strawberry trifle. A proper retro British dessert. Actress Emma Watson (a.k.a Hermoine in Harry Potter) is another example. You could say she’s a trifle tasty. But we digress.

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Famous British Food - Sticky Toffee Pudding

Sticky Toffee Pudding is yet another one of the most famous but also magical British puddings. Possibly even more so than the UK’s most famous wizard, Harry Potter himself, a.k.a. Daniel Radcliffe. See what we did there!

So, that’s a list of famous British foods. If you’ve somehow magically managed to consume all of that without throwing up, you might enjoy this tasty list of British delicacies too!
